Using the Camera
The camera allows you to capture photos, record videos, and scan barcodes/QR codes.
Capture Modes
The camera has three modes, indicated by the icon on the top panel:

Resolution
The resolution setting affects both photo and video capture quality. The app offers six resolution presets:
| Preset | Approximate Resolution | Typical Image Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | ~240p | ~50–150 KB | Fastest capture and upload |
| Medium | ~480p | ~150–400 KB | Good for quick documentation |
| High | ~720p | ~400 KB–1 MB | Default setting – recommended balance |
| Very High | ~1080p | ~1–3 MB | High detail, slower upload |
| Ultra | ~2160p (4K) | ~3–8 MB | Very high detail, significantly slower |
| Max | Highest available | Varies | Maximum device capability |
Device Availability: Not all resolution options may be available on every device. Front-facing cameras typically support fewer high-resolution options than rear cameras.
Performance Considerations
Higher resolutions produce larger files, which affect:
- Capture time – Processing higher resolution images takes longer
- Upload time – Larger files require more bandwidth and time to sync
| Resolution | Estimated Upload Time (Ideal Conditions) |
|---|---|
| Low | < 1 second |
| Medium | 1–2 seconds |
| High | 2–5 seconds |
| Very High | 5–15 seconds |
| Ultra | 15–45 seconds |
| Max | 30+ seconds |
Users in China: Due to the Great Firewall, network speeds to international servers can be significantly reduced. Higher resolution images will experience much longer upload times. We strongly recommend using High resolution settings in these regions.
Recommendation
Choose a resolution based on your organization’s quality requirements and network conditions. The platform default is High (~720p), which provides a good balance between image quality and performance. We recommend most users stick with this setting unless specific circumstances require otherwise.
Rotation Lock
The rotation lock controls the orientation of captured photos and videos. Tap the icon to toggle between locked and unlocked states.
Previously a Setting: In earlier versions of the app, orientation lock was only available in the Settings menu. It is now conveniently accessible directly from the camera’s top panel for quick adjustments.
When locked, all captures will maintain a consistent orientation regardless of how you hold the device. When unlocked, the capture orientation follows the device’s physical orientation.
Recommendation
For most inspection workflows, we recommend locking the orientation to landscape. This was the default behavior in previous versions and provides several benefits:
- Consistent image orientation across all captures
- Better compatibility with reports and documentation layouts
- Wider field of view for capturing product details
If your workflow requires both portrait and landscape captures, you can leave rotation unlocked and rotate the device as needed.
